CRISMA PROJECT SIMULATED: THE WINTER STORM OF THE CENTURY IN KEMI
The simulation of the winter storm brought emergency service actors together to CRISMA seminar in Kemi, Finland. The seminar was held from 7 to 8 April.
In CRISMA seminar, which was arranged by the Emergency Services College, the simulation tool that supports preparedness planning was tested. Emergency service actors and municipalities from Finland and Sweden participated in the event.
The weather scenario was designed to help to understand the problem areas in preparedness planning. The hypothetical winter storm intensified through a number of low pressures and eventually ended up to a long cold period. The storm was located in the Barents region, and it was specified in Tornio, Haparanda and Kemi areas. The Finnish Meteorological Institute drew the weather scenario for the CRISMA project. It was noticed that this would cause severe problems in the affected area and put the authorities in extreme situation.
